Hedge funds want to buy cryptocurrencies

created Michał SielskiJuly 8 2021

Recent polls indicate institutional investors will increase their positions in digital currencies. Only 1% of them declare that they want to get rid of their positions in Bitcoinie i altcoins in the near future.

When retail investors panic sell out their assets, institutional investors buy under the rule "Buy when blood is pouring". And everything indicates that the same is happening on the cryptocurrency market.

Hedge funds will buy cryptocurrencies

This is the result of a recent study by a London cryptocurrency fund Nickel Digital Asset Management. When interviewed in the study, the managing directors of hedge funds admit that they will increase their involvement in Bitcoin, and - in many cases: above all - other cryptocurrencies.

In addition, only 1% of respondents want to reduce positions in cryptocurrencies. What's more: the vast majority of institutions admit that they currently have at least one test position in cryptocurrencies.

Two years of buying cryptocurrencies

Investors emphasize that they will invest in cryptocurrencies. In some funds it was even established othe official crypto engine appthat will allow you to buy cryptocurrencies. According to the study, as many as 82% of the 100 surveyed investors and wealth managers forecast an increase in exposure to cryptocurrencies by 2023.

It is important to know that this was not a random survey, but a large-scale study that interviewed 50 financial managers and 50 institutional investors from countries such as the US, Germany, France, UK and United Arab Emirates.

40% of those polled are even convinced that they will radically increase their shares. 1% want to sell everything and 7% some cryptocurrencies and remain with exposure to this financial segment, but to a limited extent.

However, it must be remembered that most institutions have small positions in cryptocurrencies. Some - understandably - limit the risk, and others are just learning to invest in this market, checking the trading systems and their possibilities.

Why the bigwigs want to buy cryptocurrencies?

The answer to this question is very simple: they expect big profits in the long run. 58% of respondents count on the increase in the value of capital. At the same time, they do not expect spectacular changes in the coming months. Their perspective is years of maintaining positions in portfolios.

Investing in cryptocurrencies also allows managers to increase their confidence in the cryptocurrency market, as acknowledged by 38% of hedge fund CEOs.

- Our analysis in early June this year revealed that 19 publicly traded companies with a market cap of more than $ 1 trillion had approximately $ 6,5 billion invested in Bitcoin, originally spending $ 4,3 billion on cryptocurrency purchases - comments by Nickel Digital Co-Founder and CEO Anatoly Crachilov.

This is another study that shows that confidence in the cryptocurrency market is growing month by month. Earlier the survey was conducted by the British investment company AJ Bell's, which shows that in the last 12 months more Brits have invested in cryptocurrencies than in stocks listed on the London Stock Exchange and savings funds based on them. The increase in confidence in cryptocurrencies was also noted by MasterCard, whose research shows that 40% of its customers want to pay with cryptocurrencies in the coming year.
