Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash - What's the Difference?

created Paweł MosionekJune 28 2018

Cryptocurrencies are a relatively new fashion that has captured the minds of investors and, at the same time, attracted a whole host of new interested parties. At the same time Bitcoin (BTC) is by far the most popular "product" of this fashion. But there is also Bitcoin Cash (BCH) - derivative of the most popular cryptocurrency. BCH was created as a result hard forkthat is, a splinter of the bitcoin database that made the corrections. Where does this division come from and how do these virtual coins actually differ from each other? We answer.

Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash - Differences

Name Bitcoin Bitcoin Cash
Symbol BTC BCH
Excavated coins 16,247,731 BTC 16,945,054 BCH
Time to dig a block 10m 10m
Number of blocks 460,858 516,634
Size blockchain 129.87 GB b / d
Privacy For use, you must have a public and private key that does not contain any user data such as personal data or home address. For use, you must have a portfolio address (key), as in BTC.
Speed The confirmation time is relatively long and sometimes amounts to over a few hours. Currently, due to the increasing number of transactions per second, not all transfers go straight to the block. It depends on the transaction fee (fee) - the bigger it is, the faster it will go. The confirmation speed is definitely higher

Speed

There are no ideal things in the world. That's how it is with Bitcoin. Although it is the most popular, it has its drawbacks. The main problem is its technological limitation in the form of speed of action. For comparison, the Visa system is able to process approx. 1700 transactions per second with maximum performance at the 24 000 level. In the case of Bitcoin, this is incomparably less and the bandwidth is just 7 transactions per second.

Bitcoin Cash differs from its protoplast in block size, where transactions are recorded. In the case of BTC, we are talking about 1 MB and only the possibility of jumping to 2 MB, while in BCH the block already has the size 8 MB.

BCH does not use the so-called Segwit update, which prevents bitcoin from "clogging up". The scripting language also differs so that the network can use extensions.

All these factors make Bitcoin Cash much more efficient than its "big brother".

Cost reduction

Fees in case of transfer Bitcoin can be as high as $ 1. For Bitcoin Cash, it is as much as 5 times less, which gives us a rate of about $ 0,20 for a single transaction.

Extraction

Digging cryptocurrencies must pay off to the diggers themselves. However, in general, the calculation of the profitability of this project due to market prices is still on the BTC side. Extracting BCH clearly brings less income, and consequently fewer people decide.

Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash - what is winning?

Introducing BCH were fears that it would undermine the original. It has become quite the opposite. This has further increased the popularity of Bitcoin itself. Bitcoin Cash is actually a copy of the original with some (significant) changes. And at the moment, despite its clear advantages, it still enjoys much less popularity and trust, which can only change in a very long time.
