SMS notifications about the publication of macro data

created Paweł MosionekApril 30 2013

Forex SMS Notifications? I once "invented" a method of getting notifications about macroeconomic data releases via SMS. How useful this notification is sometimes, you probably don't need to speak.

So what will we need? Two things: Google Calendar and data sources.

Registration on Google Calendar it is simple and does not take much time. There is also no problem with the data source - numerous forex websites provide calendars in many formats, including in the iCalendar format that interests us.

Personally, I recommend the calendar provided by FXStreet.com. It is available at this address - LINK.

Once we register in Google Calendar, we go to settings (link in the upper right corner), and then to the "Mobile phone configuration" tab. There we enter our phone number and undergo verification.

After completing this stage, go to the "Calendars" tab. At the bottom of the window, in the "Other calendars" section, click on the "Add calendar" button, and in the form that appears, go to the "Add by" tab. URLs. " In the "Public address of the calendar" field, enter, for example, the above-mentioned calendar address from FXStreet. After confirmation, we will be moved to the calendar settings window. Go to the "Notifications" tab and click on the "Add reminder" link. From the list, select "SMS" and how many minutes before the event we want to receive a notification. We save and ... that's all!

This solution is not perfect, it has several drawbacks:

  • We get text messages in the middle of the night that something is happening in New Zealand or Japan ("Money never sleeps, pal"),
  • We get several SMSes if there are many data published at a given time.

After all, sometimes it's better to know more than less;).
