Book review: Occupation Investor Stock Exchange. A new shot

I remember today, when in 2006 I was fascinated by the subject of the stock exchange, currency market, speculation. Previously, I was convinced that I do not like books, but by entering the world of investment it was verified. Suddenly I began devouring the books one by one. Often the same several times. Among the included items, there was also the one created by Alexander Elder - "Occupation Stock Investor".

Among other things, this book has contributed to the fact that I have for good connected with the Forex market and took root passion associated with it. After 12 years, as Forex Club, we have the pleasure to take patronage over the new edition.

“The profession of Stock Investor. A New Take ”is a completely new book

Book "Occupation Stock Investor" was released in 1993 and was already hailed a bestseller then, a must-have for those wishing to learn more about investing. Interestingly, it collects good reviews to this day, proving its timelessness. But the world is racing and we are racing with it.

Over a decade ago, I had the second edition in my hands - from 1998 - so already then, 8 years later, it could be assumed that it may be a bit out of date in some places. After all, technology and markets evolve and so does our view of them. Some elements remain the same, such as human nature or selected techniques for analyzing charts. However, our view of them may differ over time.

The current, new approach was refreshed in 2014, but only now has it been translated into Polish. If you remember the older edition, you might be surprised. In places it is a completely new book. Elder himself admits that time has changed his view of some things - some have just become more important, others have become obsolete nowadays. This made portions of the book, and even entire chapters, completely rewritten from scratch.

Success is in you, but ...

Elder is a specialist in many areas - primarily in investing, but also in psychology (or maybe the other way around?). And it gives the book incredible added value. As a medical doctor, he pays a lot of attention to the psychological aspects that are its essence. Technical analysis is described superficially. You might think she was forced in so as not to imply that it was irrelevant.

At the same time, the author presents a highly conservative approach to investing and taking risks. This should keep novice traders lured to the market in search of easy profits in check and make them realize that on the stock market they will fight not only with experienced traders, but above all with their inner self.

"Occupation Stock Investor" inspires, but at the same time warns about what you can expect. You won't read there that investing is easy and fun. On the contrary - they made you aware of possible dangers and how much work is ahead of you before becoming a successful trader. And looking at it in retrospect, I only have to agree with it.
