The 1st Trump-Biden presidential debate is behind us. Down indexes

created Michał Sielski30 Września 2020

The November 3 US White House elections, but the first presidential television debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is behind us. There was no shortage of malice and even insults. Stock prices of US companies reflect the mood and level of debate - they are also falling.

If you think that political debates in Poland, instead of substantive conversations, are characterized by verbal aggression, low level and personal attacks - be sure to watch at least a fragment of the first television debate before the presidential election in the USA. It is enough to understand that it is similar - or maybe worse - also in other countries, those that have been cultivating democratic traditions for many years.

Fight to "remove the clown" from the White House

Both the incumbent president and his opponent did not mince words. When the subject of the conversation was the coronavirus pandemic, or rather the state's reaction to it, Joe Biden bluntly said that the incumbent president was acting like a clown and was "Putin's doggy".

“You would never do a job like we did. For 47 years you have done nothing " - Trump replied.

"- You are the worst president America has ever had" - Biden retorted.

Then it was even harsher. None of the interlocutors followed the rules of the debate: they interrupted each other permanently, they spared no sparing of spite while their rival was speaking. Chris Wallace, an experienced Fox News journalist, couldn't cope with the temperament of his interlocutors.

When Trump once again wouldn't let Biden finish his sentence and said he wasn't very smart, as evidenced by his mediocre grades in school, Biden blurted out:

"Will you shut up, man?"

Economy? The topic is irrelevant

While the economy was the most important, or one of the most important, themes of the pre-election campaign in virtually all of the last elections, this time we didn't hear much about it. There were a lot of Fr. COVID-19that killed over 200 in the US people. Biden says it is the result of decision-making chaos in the White House.

In fact, the only economic topic of conversation was the issue of taxes paid by the incumbent US president. The New York Times recently reported that Donald Trump paid $ 2016 (seven hundred and fifty) in federal income tax each year between 2017 and 750. The president described it as "Total fake news" and stated that he was paying millions in taxes.

However, he quickly went on a counterattack, recalling that Biden's son Hunter had been expelled from the military for taking cocaine.

Media: Worst Debate Ever

After the debate, the American media did not leave a dry thread on both candidates.

"It was the worst debate I've ever seen in my life" George Stephanopoulos said on TV ABC News. The Washington Post, on the other hand, writes about the debate marked by personal attacks and sharp exchanges of views.

It remains to be hoped that the remaining clashes will be more substantive. The next debates will be held on October 15 in Miami and on October 22 in Nashville. They will be broadcast by all major American television stations. Tens of millions of Americans watch them, but 70% of them already have a candidate and say the debates will not change their beliefs. The fight is therefore about the undecided, who most often make the final decision in the last month of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Biden wants to "recapture" industrial Ohio and Pennsylvania, which backed Trump in 2016. Earlier, the working-class electorate supported the democrats and the candidate for the new president hopes to convince the inhabitants of these states of his views. To this end, he will travel to them by train to find a common language faster. Trump ridiculed the idea by comparing his opponent to train-only Kim Jong Un, the mad dictator of North Korea.

The US presidential election will be held on November 3, 2020.
