Amazon Prime Day for the first time in Poland

created Forex ClubJuly 6 2022

On July 12-13, Amazon organizes Prime Day, an online shopping festival. This year, it will also be held in Poland for the first time. In the period of increasing risk of recession, Prime Day will be an important barometer of global consumer sentiment.

Amazon Prime Day will take place on July 12-13 and will include promotional online shopping offers for over 200 million Prime members in 22 countries. In the US, its members pay $ 15 a month, in Poland - where the program started in October 2021 - only PLN 49 / year. The low price is expected to enable Amazon to compete with Allegro - the most popular e-commerce platform on the Vistula River.

With Black Friday (November 25) and Cyber Monday (November 28), Amazon Prime is one of the most important trading days in the US. Sales over this period are projected to total $ 7,8 billion, an increase of 17%. Amazon is responsible for around 55 percent. all online sales in the US.

Amazon Prime Day also in Poland

This year, Prime Day will also be officially held in Poland for the first time. Previously, Poles could also participate in it, but they had to buy goods on Amazon's websites in Germany, Great Britain or the USA.

In the face of increasing risk of recession, Prime Day will be an important determinant of US consumer sentiment. In Poland, it will be too small to make economic forecasts based on it. On the other hand, in the US it is the consumer behavior that is currently the barrier against the recession, improving the current economic indicators. They are currently limiting their savings in order to maintain their standard of living and consumption with rising prices. However, there the mechanism will weaken as American savings fall.

Prime Day also masks the post-pandemic shift from online to land-based trading. Of course, the natural level of online sales will remain much higher than it was before the pandemic. But now consumers want to buy again in brick-and-mortar stores, limiting the great results of online trading in 2020-2021.

amazon vs. Alibaba

Another aspect related to Prime Day is the American-Chinese rivalry. Because the Chinese e-commerce market is bigger than the American one, just like Chinese shopping festivals. Prime Day is losing out in terms of sales to Alibaba's Singles Day ("Singles Day"), which takes place on November 11 each year.

Last year, Alibaba's festival sales totaled $ 84 billion, while its smaller rival JD.com sold an additional $ 54 billion in merchandise at the festival. China's share of global online trade is over 50%, which is more than double that of the US. And more than half of China's retail sales are online, compared to an average of 20%. worldwide.

Global online sales are projected to reach $ 5 trillion this year. The e-commerce market was the fastest growing in India, Indonesia and Brazil. E-commerce exposure is provided by stocks of individual companies, as well as eToro's @ShoppingCart, @FashionPortfolio and @MobilePayments themed portfolios.
