The cheapest bitcoin in almost half a year. The price dropped to 38 thousand. USD

created Daniel KosteckiJanuary 21 2022

Bitcoin price today fell by more than 8 percent, from approx. 43 thousand. less than 39 thousand USD, i.e. to the lowest level since August last year. The retreat from risky assets seems to have dominated since the beginning of the year and may be supported by the prospect of a slightly tighter monetary policy Federal Reserve.

The decline in the BTC price may also be influenced by the proposal of the Russian central bank to ban the use and mining of any cryptocurrencies. If such a ban were to come into force, then Russia would become the second largest country after China with such a strict approach to cryptocurrencies.

The declines are also visible on the stock exchanges

According to data Coinmarketcap about $ 147 billion has evaporated from the entire cryptocurrency market in the last 24 hours. However, this negative sentiment towards risky assets also seems to dominate the stock market, especially the Nasdaq tech index. In November it was in the region of 16750 points, and yesterday it fell to 14650 points. As a consequence, the Nasdaq 100 may have reached the level observed recently three months ago. Investors may start to fear whether there will be a larger correction or a bear market on Wall Street.

According to the futures contracts, the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates this year by 1 percentage point, to 1-1,25%, which could also have an impact on the sentiment towards the stocks. The first Fed meeting this year will be held on January 25-26. Then the market may also get answers to questions about the cycle of interest rate increases in 2022.
