The Korean Bithumb cryptocurrency market has been robbed a second time
One of the largest stock exchanges cryptocurrency in South Korea - Bithumb - was robbed, and losses they could reach even 19 million dollars. One of the dismissed workers may be involved in the theft. A year ago, the same stock exchange lost about $ 15 million dollars as a result of hackers.
24 March this year there was the theft of an unknown number of tokens from the Singapore cryptocurrency market Dragonex. The company's authorities quickly revealed how it came to warn other stock exchanges against hackers. Not only institutions from Singapore, but also Hong Kong, Thailand and Estonia were warned.
It turned out that it did not help much, because it just revealed another successful action of Internet burglars. This time in South Korea. The losses are huge.
A dismissed employee, paid himself a "bonus"?
In this case, however, it is speculated that one of the employees dismissed from the platform may be behind the theft. Cybercriminal professionals stress that after recent attacks security procedures have been even more tightened, so it may be very likely. Especially that redundancies have begun recently in Bithumb that were to cut workers by half.
An undisclosed person could steal private keys and lead 12,5 million dollars in EOS and 6,2 tokens in tokens XRP. Only form balance funds were to be stolen, but Bithumb has already announced that it also withholds payments from individual customer accounts, which may indicate that the company's authorities may not know what the actual and final scale of losses is.
Bithumb robbed once again
This is not the first time the Bithumb stock market goes down. Already in June 2018 the company had to swallow a bitter pill when hackers stole over $ 30 in cryptocurrencies. Fast reaction and information flow with other cryptocurrency exchanges allowed for the recovery of half of the funds, but the rest was lost.
This time, Bithumb also immediately reported to the Korean Internet Security Agency (KISA), as well as the cybernetic police, but for now there are no effects of these actions and tokens have not been found.
