A wave of protests in China | What will the week bring?

created Forex ClubNovember 28 2022

The wave of protests that spread across China caused a nervous start to the week on the markets. Crude oil, which tested around USD 74 per barrel on Monday morning, is losing heavily. October was the sixth consecutive month of declines in Chinese property prices - the largest such decline in seven years. Pandemic restrictions introduced by the Chinese government only worsen the situation of the slowing economy.

On the other hand, good data from the US

On the other hand, lower data on October's inflation gave a lot of hope to investors. Although the dynamics of price growth remains high, more and more voices argue that in the last months of 2023 the level of inflation in the United States will approach 2%. This is favored by normalization on the supply side (including falling transport prices) and falling oil prices. Investors assume that increasingly lower inflation readings will translate into looser monetary policy on the part of the party FOMC. At the same time, the latest data from the American economy indicate a systematic deterioration of the economic climate. Flash PMI readings were clearly worse, and the labor market - although still strong - recorded the largest increase in the number of unemployed (240) since August. But what if the level of inflation in the US does not fall to 2% and the Fed does not withdraw from its hawkish policy?

We invite you to a webinar with the Chief Economist XTB Dr. Przemysław Kwiecień, in which he will focus on the key topic of this week - the wave of protests in China.
