The Dutch regulator wants to ban binary options and Forex

created Paweł Mosionek21 February 2017

A few days ago, we informed you about the actions taken by the French regulator AMF regarding the marketing activities of binary options and Forex brokers (read: The French prohibit Forex and binary options). It seems that the Netherlands will also decide to take a similar step. AFM, the Dutch financial market regulator, announced today that it is considering banning the advertising of risky financial instruments. In the opinion of AFM, these are binary options, futures contracts with a leverage greater than 1:10, CFD instruments with a leverage greater than 1:10, as well as the so-called "Payday loans". The planned measures are intended to protect citizens, especially those with a low level of awareness and experience in investing, from losing capital, considering these products as "potentially harmful". The idea is also argued by actions taken by other regulatory authorities in Europe, such as in France or Germany.

Public consultations for 3 April

AFM does not want to ban "just like that". Therefore, a discussion panel was opened, which is to last until April 3 this year, where each market participant, i.e. both investors and brokers, can present their opinions to the regulator by e-mail to the following address: nrgfo@afm.nl.
