IC Markets enters the European market

created Paweł MosionekSEPTEMBER 22, 2018

Australian broker, IC Markets, received a license from the Cypriot regulator - CySEC. It is also planned to open an office in Cyprus soon, thanks to which its presence in Europe will not be only "virtual". Where did this decision come from? Unofficially, one can only assume that it is about ESMA's plans.

Expansion to Europe

License by CySEC was granted already in June this year, which is confirmed by the information on the regulator's website. The company was registered under the name IC Markets (EU) Ltd. and will operate under the website www.icmarkets.eu, which is still under construction at the moment. Some of the broker's move may be shocking. After all, the new ESMA guidelines from August effectively limited the possibilities of Forex brokers, which was known a few months earlier. So why would an Australian broker push to Europe?

One can only assume that this is a prophylactic action in case ESMA would like to implement an idea assuming a total blockage for EU clients to services provided by companies from outside its territory, what we wrote at the beginning of the month. Is such a scenario at all possible? Theoretically yes, and it is not an isolated idea, because such plans have already been declared by Russia.

The popularity of IC Markets

IC Markets has gained a good reputation among traders from around the world thanks to high quality services and a very competitive offer in terms of transaction costs. Access to many asset classes, the possibility of trading on MT4, MT5 and cTrader platforms as well as the execution of orders in the ECN model are strong assets.

But presence only on the Australian market caused some restrictions, including no possibility of active promotion on the territory of the European Union. With a Cypriot license now it will be possible. What changes can we expect? Suddenly, the introduction of bills in PLN currency and the opening of an account in a Polish bank became a real vision, which would surely attract the attention of Polish traders.
