Hawks are hunting on Wall Street. What will the week bring?

created Forex Club13 February 2023

Recent data from the US labor market strongly changed market expectations regarding the path of interest rates in the United States. One more hike than before is now priced in, and interest rates Fed should peak just above 5%. The key thing, however, is that the market does not price in interest rates lower at the end of the year than at present. Although fuel prices still point to a potential drop in inflation in the US, it should be limited.

More rate hikes possible

Fuel production in the US is at a high level, and yet - prices at filling stations are not falling. Another wave of inflation growth in the US could also take place due to the situation in China. Comparing the inflation curve in the US to the credit impulse in the Middle Kingdom, one can suspect that in the next four to six months we should see a trough and a possible subsequent rebound in inflation. Russia announced a cut in oil production by 0,5 million barrels a day, and the current embargoes cause difficulties in storing and processing this raw material. It is possible that Moscow's problems will lead to a return of oil prices to around USD 100 per barrel.
