The end of the sale of MetaTrader 4

created Paweł MosionekJanuary 12 2018

MetaQuotes nails another nail in the coffin of the MetaTrader 4 platform. The most popular trading app among retail investors will no longer be sold to brokers. What does this mean for us traders? Necessity to change to MetaTrader 5. But not now.

Sale of MetaTrader 4 suspended today

On January 12, 2018, the Russian software producer declared the end of selling licenses for the iconic MT4 platform to brokers and financial institutions. The application made its debut on the market 12 years ago, and although the newer work - MetaTrader 5 - has been in circulation for over 8 years, both versions were still sold. This, however, is about to change for good.

The MT4 shutdown will be gradual. So far, a declaration MetaQuotes it only means that new entities cannot acquire a license. Companies that bought it earlier can use it all the time and count on technical support and any necessary updates. Necessary, i.e. only those that require maintaining an appropriate level of security, patching holes and bugs, and fixing nuisance defects.

Transfer to MT5? That's for sure.

About the the end of MT4 is getting closer and closer to us a year ago. Despite the passage of time, the date when "four" it will completely exit the circulation. This process must be progressive due to the number of brokers from around the world that use it. It is also a big change for traders due to the fact that the strength of the MT platform is a huge access to custom tools in the form of indicators, scripts, machines and various combines or copiers. MT5 has a modified programming language, MQL5, which means that all these tools must be modified at the source code level.

MetaQuotes has long been trying to promote its newest work, although it must be admitted that it is extremely crude. Traders do not really want to change to a newer model, but over time they will be forced to do so.
