Review: Dukascopy platform - JForex Web 3

The flagship Swiss platform ECN Dukascopy brokerJForex 3 has been on the market for about two years. Since then, despite the fact that it significantly exceeded the capabilities of its predecessor - JForex - it underwent a whole lot of updates. Actually, there is no shortage of a month for developers to surprise us with another portion of news.

Meanwhile, work was underway on the release of an alternative version of JForex 3 - a version dedicated to web browsers. Naturally, the very environment in which the platform is to work deprives it of some possibilities that have been implemented on the desktop (installation) version. But does that mean it's worse?

Web and mobile platforms are the future

Year by year, the platform market share Forex aims to popularize mobile solutions, which in a way are also Web platforms. This is evidenced by the fact that every self-respecting broker has such an application in his offer - if he does not use the solutions of a software provider, he creates his own in an act of desperation. Mobile platforms dedicated to smartphones and tablets have become for some traders something of a must-have, and sometimes even an addictive game, like Agra Birds for children. On the other hand, Web platforms that can be run from any computer without having to install anything on it is a chance to spend time on full-time trading at work, on a borrowed computer or on vacation.

Module for placing orders

If you use or have used the desktop version, you will not be surprised. The Web version looks very similar, although you can't help but feel that it is more "smoothed" and slimmer. This is also the case in fact. A few functions, buttons and tabs have disappeared - these are the consequences of building the transaction environment in the browser. But you will not feel this "defect" right away, or depending on your preferences and needs, you may not feel it at all.

The interface itself has remained simple and friendly. The "drag-drop" method works all the time, the middle mouse button and scroll are active, and we can also change the size of the windows and the colors of the charts and some additional elements (eg tickers). It is even possible to pull the chart outside the platform and quickly hide selected modules.

The platform works quite well. It does not hang or "muddy". Switching between charts or multiple, quick changes of intervals is no problem for JForex 3 Web. It seems that the biggest challenge for her is entering and modifying orders. But it's not so blatant that it can make our lives uncomfortable, which you can also check on DEMO (browser type and computer parameters can play a significant role here).

Desktop vs. Web - what's left

Operation of machines. Yes, it's hard to believe, but on the Web version we can use automatic strategies (EA) all the time. How? Using the JCloud cloud on which our strategy will work. The service is free. Just register in the community FX Community.

Templates and charts. These settings can also be saved in the cloud, so we can use them on any version of JForex 3 and on any device. A brilliant thing.

Indicators and tools. The Dukascopy browser platform gives us a wide range of analytical objects, tools and technical analysis indicators. There are fewer them than on the stationary version, but the gaps do not constitute more than 10% of the total harvest. We have access to approx. 50 indicators + form recognition tools, which in the case of Web versions are implemented as additional tools (in Desktop is a separate module). Less comfortable, but still performs its role.

Conclusion of orders. It is possible to conclude orders with one click - from the side module or from the chart. In the platform options, we can still define all the default parameters for orders broken down into different assets. It is a great convenience.

Desktop vs. Web - what's missing

Conclusion of orders. Probably the biggest of them is the lack of visible positions on the chart and moving the levels of pending orders with the mouse. True, we can still turn on the auto-add feature Stop Loss / Take Profit when opening a new position, but further modifications must be made in a separate window. Due to the fact that we do not see the order levels, we have to check the rates on the charts all the time or use the horizontal lines imposed by ourselves. This is a bit of a pain with scalping.

Diagrams. The functionality of the charts has been limited. We have a smaller range of configuration options, and we were deprived of the possibility of creating our own intervals. It is true that we have 14 to choose from, but on the Desktop version we can create our own. There are also three basic types of charts - candlestick, line and bar charts. Therefore, there are no point and area areas at your disposal. This is a small loss, because hardly anyone uses it, but it hurts the fact that the Range Bars and Renko.

Keyboard shortcuts. There are actually none except for a working tab. All operations are carried out with the mouse, while recently on the JForex 3 in the desktop version appeared quite extensive functions of operating the platform using the keyboard.

Summation

The Dukascopy Web version is an interesting proposition for people who want to trade in the Forex / CFD market without having to install any software while accepting only small compromises. Differences with the Desktop version are visible and can be felt after a short time. But a lot of traders will not bother you. The scalpers, which lack the option of quick edition of SL / TP levels from the graph and visualization of the levels of pending orders, will suffer the most. However, we are convinced that it is only a matter of time before these changes are introduced.
