Rafał Janik "A book about investing, volume 2" [REVIEW]

created Michał SielskiApril 11 2022

"A book on investing. How to make money in the stock market? Volume 2 " Rafał Janik is a must-see, especially for beginner investors, and its greatest asset is timeliness. Instead of the "tulip fever" examples, we have broken down market movements during the coronavirus outbreak. The Covid-19 epidemic allows you to understand what, when and why happened in the financial market and learn how to apply it in the future.

Most books on investing are touted as timeless works that convey universal truths applicable to all conditions and markets. And undoubtedly it is often so, because the laws of economics are permanent and immutable.

But let's face it: do the example of tulip fever, or even the Great Depression, appeal to us? Most often they are historical events, and therefore also abstract, and it is difficult for us to imagine anything similar nowadays.

In Rafał Janika's book, we don't have to imagine such events. The author collected them for us. The most important is, of course, the Covid-19 epidemic, which had an obvious impact not only on stock markets, but also - and perhaps most of all - the prices of raw materials and currencies.

It is also worth adding that the entire text is written in a language that is understandable even to a layman, but it is not irritating for people who are brother to the financial market. Therefore, despite the fact that there are many charts in the item, also more complicated ones, the book is very easy to read, even in the same breath.

When the inflation target is a thrilling adventure

Especially since this is the second volume of the book. The author had a lot of feedback after the first edition and enriched the new part with data that was important to readers. Thanks to this, even when reading about the inflation target, one can get the impression that we are taking part in a fascinating adventure.

The most important thing, however, is that after reading it, we won't wander around the market like children in a fog. We will understand what rules govern it, and even if the initial investments cannot be treated as even moderate successes, we will understand after reflection where and what mistakes we have made. And this is invaluable knowledge for investors, not only beginners.

That is why it is a must for those who want to engage in speculation on the WSE and for those who want to treat the stock market as a long-term investment. It is also a position worth attention to anyone who has been on the market for a few years and would like to consolidate their knowledge.

Especially that the book does not lack specific games on currency pairs, indices or commodities that we know exactly. And this definitely appeals to the imagination more than the aforementioned examples from the distant past. You just need to remember not to let your imagination - especially too vivid ones - overwhelm your mind and obscure the plan that everyone should have in mind after more than 200 pages of Rafał Janik's book.
