The US is threatening the UK: get along with the EU because you won't get along with us

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently announced that it does not have to come to an understanding with the European Union and hard Brexit is better for his country's citizens. He probably also thought it was a strong negotiating strategy. It turns out, however, that another strong player has joined the game. The president of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, warns that if this goes on, the US will not sign any treaties with Great Britain.

A few days ago, Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, started to shake his nose at the negotiations with the European Union and even stated that he would not want to bring them to an end. That is, it will lead, but only if it ends with its conditions, and not some compromise. Europe is in turmoil, because it is mainly about the border between Northern Ireland - belonging to Great Britain - and Ireland.

USA enters the game

It turns out, however, that leading politicians in the US are closely watching the toughness in Europe. And they are not at all satisfied with the direction the talks are going. Even Nancy Pelosi, the president of the US House of Representatives, spoke out on the matter, and she bluntly warned the British authorities that by negotiating in this way they might face poverty not only on their continent.

"If the UK breaks the international 'Good Friday' treaty and challenges the Brexit deal, there will be absolutely no chance for Congress to accept the US-UK deal." - emphasizes Nancy Pelosi.

What is going on? For the 1998 treaty, which until now was an agreement stabilizing the situation in this region. On Good Friday 1998, a peace agreement was signed, ending the clashes between Ireland and Great Britain over Northern Ireland. In the US, the volatility of Boris Johnson is also unhappy with the fact that he changes his mind every now and then and as soon as everyone starts to think that the negotiations are going in the right direction, he sets an ultimatum.

Great Britain wants to change the Brexit deal

But why did senior US administration officials decide to speak out at all? The reason was - how! - another decision by Boris Johnson. Work has begun in the British parliament on a law that allows ... to break Brexit agreements. The act already has a preliminary draft of provisions that say that there will be no border between Ireland and Northern Ireland with classic transitions, hard control, etc.

Recently, Boris Johnson also stated explicitly that if the free trade agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom is not signed by October 15 this year, the United Kingdom will not resume negotiations. Diary "The Telegraph" says Boris Johnson will start in a week  a speech in Brussels to emphasize that the Brexit deal has nothing to do with the interests of his country and must be changed. If it does, we can expect emotions - also in the financial markets - to be heated up again.

According to commentators, Great Britain is doing everything possible to break off negotiations with the European Union. And it is preparing for such a scenario, because in the House of Commons there is already a draft law on the internal market that will systematize trade within Great Britain, and at the same time contradict all previous agreements.

"Violation of the concluded Brexit agreement would undoubtedly lead to a violation of international law" - underlines Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission.

But does anyone believe Boris Johnson cares about this?
