What will count this week?

created Marcin KiepasSEPTEMBER 24, 2022

Financial markets ignored the disappointing PMI indices for Europe on Monday, and were not taken care of by the strong declines in the stock markets in China and Hong Kong. All the time, however, they live the Friday reports of The Wall Street Journal.

What else will count on the markets this last week of October?

The situation in the debt markets, which strongly absorbed investors' attention last week, when, inter alia, Yields on US 10Y bonds soared to 15Y highs, and Polish bond yields were the highest in two decades, then turned sharply on Friday, this week it will still attract investors' attention.

But that's not all. And it is not about reports from Ukraine or weather forecasts on the old continent, which have recently determined gas prices in Europe. It is not even about the intervention of the Bank of Japan to defend the yen. The key day of the week will be Thursday. Then investors will know the results of the meeting European Central Bank (ECB) and a preliminary reading of US GDP data for the third quarter of this year. These are the two most important reports of this week.

Bank of Japan meeting

Additionally, the Ifo index for Germany will be published on Tuesday, and there will be a meeting of the Bank of Japan on Friday and the publication of October data on consumer inflation in Germany, France, Spain and Italy. Data that will be partially "disarmed" by Thursday's ECB meeting, but at the same time should be a reference point for the next ECB decision. Hence, they should be noticed by investors.

In the case of Wall Street, which will also indirectly affect the behavior of other global stock exchanges, the season of publication of quarterly results will be of great importance. This week, the results will be reported by such stock exchange giants as Alphabet (Google), Coca-Cola, GE, GM, Halliburton, Microsoft, UPC, Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, Boeing, Ford, Meta (Facebook), Amazon, Intel, Chevron and Exxon Mobil. Of course, big technology will play a leading role in this group.
