Biotechnology is one of the fields whose development has accelerated strongly in the XNUMXst century. Thanks to the discovery and reconstruction of the mechanism present in bacterial cells, it became possible to "cut out" specific DNA fragments and replace them with others. Technique CRISPR it also allows the incorporation of a completely different, designed piece of DNA in the indicated place. Thanks to this method, it has become possible to treat diseases that are the result of the presence of "defective" genes.

CRISPR – a biotechnological revolution?

CRISPR is an interesting – and, according to many, more ethical – alternative to the methods of genome editing used so far. Thanks to it, entrepreneurs in the food sector gained the opportunity to modify their crops in a different way than in the case of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Gene editing won the Nobel prize for female founders CRISPR Therapeutics and Intellia Therapeutics. Both companies are authorized to manufacture drugs whose effects have been confirmed by clinical tests. In 2021, the entire CRISPR market was valued at over USD 2,1 billion, but analysts expect that in 2025 the capitalization of this market may exceed USD 10 billion. What companies can benefit from the revolutionary method of gene editing?

We invite you to the next webinar Closer to the Stock Exchangein which Maciej Kietliński looks at the potential beneficiaries of a breakthrough in medicine.

In the latest webinar:

  • How does gene editing work?
  • Why does CRISPR gene editing have potential?
  • What companies can benefit from this technology?
