The US dollar is trying to recover
Friday's session ended on the US stock market with gains (S & P 500 +0,48 percent, DJIA +0,59 percent, Nasdaq Composite +0,01 percent) partially recovering losses from the previous 2 sessions. Stock markets in Asia and Oceania were dominated by declines today (the largest - by 1,87 percent - was recorded today Hang Seng). The only major indices in the region to gain today were New Zealand's NZZ50 (+0,53%), Japan's Nikkei 225 (+0,16%) and Thailand's SET Index +0,1%.
On the European stock exchanges, slight declines in indices also prevailed this morning (DAX -0,32 percent, CAC 40 -0,2 percent around 9:40 am).
Falls on the Warsaw Stock Exchange
The WSE also started the new week with slight declines (WIG-20 -0,37 percent approx. 9:45). Among the components of mWIG 40 its XTB share prices reached a historic low this morning. Among the components of sWIG 80, the highest level in history was recorded by the share price of Unimot. At the other extreme was the price of MFO shares, which fell to the lowest level since March last year.
The difference between the yields on 40- and 10-year US treasury bonds (-2 percentage points) remained at the highest level in 0,72 years. In the past 10 years, such an "inversion" of the yield curve always heralded the onset of an economic recession in the US. The yield on Polish 10-year bonds hovered around 7 percent this morning.
Crude oil prices, which fell to their lowest levels in about 6 weeks on Friday, fell slightly this morning (WTI -0,34%, Brent -0,57% around 9:25 AM, but remained above Friday lows). The prices of copper (-0,63 percent around 9:25 a.m.) and precious metals (gold -0,57 percent, silver -0,87 percent, platinum -0,92 percent, palladium -1,19 percent). ICE cotton futures fell to a two-week low this morning.
Dollar appreciation
The US dollar strengthened this morning. The EUR/USD exchange rate continued the correction of the last increase started last week (-0,6% around 9:20). The US dollar against the Japanese yen was the highest in a week this morning (USD/JPY +0,53%).
By following the movements in the usual way EUR / USD Polish zloty weakened this morning (EUR/PLN +0,21 percent, USD/PLN +0,81 percent around 9:20 am).
The Bitcoin exchange rate against the US dollar, which in recent days fell briefly below the level of USD 16000, reaching the lowest level in 2 years, again today attacked the level of these November lows (around 9:10 a.m. it fell by 1,65 percent reaching level of $16003).
