Profitability statistics of Polish traders for the first quarter of 2018

created Paweł MosionekApril 17 2018

Polish brokerage houses offering trading mediation on the Forex market presented the results achieved by their clients in the first quarter of the year 2018 (see results for the year 2017). The published data do not differ significantly from the values published three months earlier. All the time you can see that on average, around 1 / 3 investors achieve a positive result by investing in the Forex market. In the case of other instruments, such as exchange rate differences based on goods or bonds, these results are even better.

Pursuant to the KNF guidelines that came into force in September of the 2016 year, Polish DMs are obliged to report statistics on the percentage of earning and losing customers divided into asset classes. The data must be presented on the broker's site to 10 on the day of the month opening the new quarter for the previous 3 months.

On average, 32,8% of those earning on Forex

The tables below present the results of traders, broken down into financial instruments expressed as a percentage, which concluded transactions with Polish brokerage houses offering Forex / CFD trading.

Cryptocurrencies

TMS Brokers was the first and the only broker to publish statistics of their clients trading in cryptocurrencies. 54,2% of traders achieved a loss, and 45,8% ended the quarter with a positive result.

Leader of the Noble Markets ranking

Alior Bank, the leader of the fourth quarter of 2017 in terms of customer profitability on the Forex market, recorded a significant decrease, from 37% to 34,6%. This month, Noble Securities clients performed best with 35,21% of earnings. The mForex clients were the worst - the losers were almost 70%.

In the case of CFDs based on commodities, Noble Securities clients are again the leaders - every second trader has completed his investments with a positive result on the so-called commodities. XTB clients close the rate again.

Index CFDs are a class of instruments that is extremely popular among Polish traders. It is therefore surprising that there is a clear disproportion in profitability - from 26,9% (Alior Bank) to 39,41% (Noble Securities).

The investment performance of CFDs on bonds and interest rates is never reliable enough due to the low statistical sample. Nevertheless, this month's figures are exceptionally “even”. The results of all brokers oscillate around 50%. But here too, the statistics in Noble Markets are the best for the fourth time.

Equities CFDs, or stock contracts, are the instruments on which traders achieve the worst results. And to confirm the rule, we have an exception - this time the "loss leaders" are Noble Securities clients - all who invested in CFDs on shares lost. BossaFX customers did the best, although the result is not impressive. Less than 24% of investors ended the 3-month period with a profit.

Order execution - time and slippage

For the first time, BossaFX published statistics on the processing of orders submitted by its clients. The standard time of execution in the first quarter of 2018 amounted to 71 milliseconds. The term "client orders" covers both the conclusion of a transaction by a pending order at the market price, as well as the cancellation and modification of the parameters of these orders.

Noble Securities broker announced that the standard time of performing client orders on the OTC market (ie the average order execution time under standard conditions) in the first quarter of 2018 accounted for 529.58 milliseconds.

In XTB in the first quarter of this year, the average execution time of the order was 41 milliseconds and this is better than in BossaFX, and almost 13 times lower than in Noble Securities. However, whether looking at the results of customers is not the proof that the execution is not so important?

Slips when executing orders in XTB

XTB also provided statistics on slippage prices. In the execution of orders in the market mode on CFD 68.54 instruments,% of transactions were carried out with a price slippage equal to 0, 15.08% with positive, and 16.38% with negative slip for the customer. The broker also provided a statement of average spreads for all CFD instruments.

Foreign Forex brokers

Although the obligation to publish quarterly statistics is imposed by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority only on Polish brokerage houses, two foreign brokers - Admiral Markets and CMC Markets. How did Polish traders using the services of these companies fall out? The results are presented in the tables below.

CMC Markets - The results achieved with Polish brokers are confirmed. Investors trading CFDs on stocks and indices were the worst. The best, though unreliable, result is on bonds and interest rates. Forex trading was profitable for 36% of clients, which is quite a good result.

cmc markets

Admiral Markets - slight increase among currency traders compared to the third quarter - from 34,61% to 35,24%. It must be admitted, however, that the investments performed equally well on the other groups of instruments. The result on shares looks particularly interesting, where as many as 37% of traders reported a profit.

Derivative class class The percentage of customers who achieved the result:
Net profit Net loss
Forex CFD 34,39% 65,61%
CFD shares 37,01% 61,69%
CFD goods 38,74% 61,26%
CFD indices 37,16% 62,63%

At the same time, Admiral Markets is the only broker that regularly publishes detailed data on the execution of its clients' orders online - Check HERE.
