The S & P500 is an American stock index that includes 500 companies with the highest market capitalization, listed on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Together, they account for 75% of the US stock market capitalization. The index, which is known in its present shape, was established in 1957, when the number of companies included in it was increased from 90 to 500.

The largest companies in the S & P500 index are technology companies such as Amazon, Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),or Microsoft.
