NASDAQ is an American stock exchange and the second largest stock exchange in the world (the first is the American NYSE). The first listing took place on February 8, 1971. Initially, mainly companies related to modern technologies in the IT sector were to be listed there. At present, the stock exchange consists of approximately 3000 companies. Among them are Google, Microsoft, Apple, Intel Corp. and also much younger Facebook, Twitter, Netflix.

The stock exchange has its branches in Canada, China, Japan and Dubai. As of today, the stock exchange has almost 3000 companies. On NASDAQ you can find many companies known and operating around the world.

In 2000, NASDAQ was hit hard by the bursting of the "dot COM" bubble. The crash caused the index to drop from 5000 points to just 1000 points in a short while.
